TARGET BOOK UPDATES
Congressional candidates where required to file their quarterly
finance reports with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) showing all
dollars raised and spent through 3/31/08. Following are updates in
districts that significant dollars were raised.

CD3 (R-Lungren)
The Target Book labels this as a SAFE GOP seat, but that has
not deterred Democrat BILL DURSTON, a physician, who reported
raising $228,803 including $44,295 from his own pocket.
His reported CASH ON HAND is $128,262.
Republican incumbent DAN LUNGREN raised $328,792 this
year, with CASH ON HAND of $559,311.
Durston ran against Lungren in 2006, spending over $200,000 that year
and receiving 38 percent of the vote.

(R-Doolittle-OPEN SEAT)
Four Republicans will be on the June ballot, but this is a
two-candidate race between state Senator TOM McCLINTOCK and
former Congressman DOUG OSE.
McClintock reported raising $315,979, almost all of it from
individual contributions, spent $190,095 and CASH ON HAND of
$125,884.
Ose reported raising $2.4 million, most from his own pocket.
He spent $2.4 million. His reported CASH ON HAND is
$800,894.
Republicans SUZANNE JONES and THEODORE TERBOLIZARD did
not file a 3/31/08 report.
On the Democratic side, Democrat CHARLIE BROWN has raised
$952,144, spent $424,903, with reported CASH ON HAND of
$590,646.

Democratic incumbent JERRY McNERNEY reported raising $1.6
million with CASH ON HAND of $1,153,586.
Republican challenger DEAN ANDAL has raised $638,682,
with CASH ON HAND of $531,818.

CD26 (R-Dreier)
Incumbent Republican Congressman DAVID DREIER reported raising
$764,708, with CASH ON HAND of $1,874,633. Republican
SONNY SARDO, who ran against Dreier in the 2006 GOP Primary, is
again running but did not file a 3/31/08 FEC report.
On the Democratic side, magazine publisher RUSS WARNER
reported raising $489,793, including $87,000 out of his own
pocket, with CASH ON HAND of $244,423. His Democratic Primary
opponent, CYNTHIA MATTHEWS, reported raising $40,993 which
includes $12,000 from the candidate.

CD43 (D-Baca)
Democrat JOANNE GILBERT filed against incumbent
JOE BACA in the Democratic Primary, but is not doing any significant
fundraising; raising $16,000 and CASH ON HAND of $681. Baca
reported raising $548,000 with CASH ON HAND of $142,556.

CD45 (R-Bono Mack)
The only news here is that former Democratic Asm.
JULIE BORNSTEIN put in $90,000 to jumpstart her campaign to challenge
incumbent MARY BONO MACK in November. Bornstein’s total CASH ON HAND
is $104,267. The other two Democratic candidates in the June Primary
did not file a 3/31/08 FEC report.
Bono Mack reported raising $986,960 with CASH ON
HAND of $344,124.

Democrat NICK LEIBHAM is moving forward in his
attempt to seriously challenge Republican incumbent BRIAN BILBRAY.
Leibham has raised $314,819, mostly from individual contributions,
and CASH ON HAND of $239,585.
Bilbray raised $677,917, with CASH ON HAND of
$449,284. The other Democrat in the race, CHERYL EDE, did not
raise any significant amount of money and is showing no cash on hand.

On the Republican side:
DUNCAN D. HUNTER raised $503,236, spent
$239,983, and COH of $263,253.
BRIAN JONES raised $160,203, spent $82,242,
and COH of $77,960.
BOB WATKINS raised $301,583, spent $257,433,
and COH of $44,150.
RICK POWELL did not file a 3/31/08 FEC report.
On the Democratic side, MIKE LUMPKIN raised
$163,071, spent $82,845, and COH of $80,226. VICKIE
BUTCHER raised $37,243, spent $24,640, and COH of
$12,604. |
